Past event

In 2004 LHRPHC initiated an Indigenous cattle drive from Julia Creek to Longreach, a journey of nearly 500 kilometers with 1,200 steers. Three Indigenous cattle companies were involved including:

      Calton Hills

      Morr Morr (Delta Downs)

    LHRPHC

Extensive support was provided by Centacare in Mount Isa.

The aim of the trip was to give more Indigenous Youth the opportunity to participate in the Company’s personal development programs and to show case 3 independently successful Aboriginal owned pastoral companies which were investing in the future of their youth. In all 36 young Aboriginal men participated. A substantial amount of funds were raised for the sponsorship of scholarships. 12 participants continued their involvement by undergoing a 7 week training program at the Longreach Agricultural College at the conclusion of the cattle drive.

Other special training programs have been conducted in conjunction with Delta Downs since.
